More than 2,500 years ago the Ancient Romans began calling Rome the Eternal City. They believed that despite the rise and fall of other empires, Rome would live on forever. So far, this has proven to be true. Rome’s slow but steady growth is the result of much patience, labor and the accumulation of societal advancements, including concrete, paved roadways and bounded books, to name a few.
This ancient city has a dense past, drawing history buffs from all over the world to its monuments, squares, museums, catacombs, and synagogues. Like many modern global cities, Rome also draws lovers of fashion and fine cuisine. Stop for a bite to eat at a streetside café and enjoy mouthfuls of authentic spaghetti alla carbonara or fettuccine alfredo.
As the hub of Catholicism, Rome is a sought-after destination for many religious and non-religious tourists each year. The pope resides in Vatican City located in the heart of Rome. In the Vatican City you will find St. Peter’s Basilica, St. Peter’s Square and Michelangelo’s La Pietá, gaining a real sense of what it felt like to live in Rome 500 years ago.
Globally, Rome is most recognized for its vast collection of famous artwork and its unforgettable architecture. Often, both art and architecture are combined into one prolific masterpiece, such as The Sistine Chapel, an iconic building with grand ceilings that were painted by Michelangelo. This unprecedented masterpiece changed the course of Western art forever. Of course, you cannot leave Rome without seeing its 12 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Vatican, the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Trevi Fountain.
The city’s deeply rooted past will keep you exploring millennium-old streets from sunrise to sunset. Join us as we learn more about Rome’s history all while making history of our own!
Summit attendees will be awed as they enter the 3,400-square meter, 2,800-seat Sala Santa Cecilia (Santa Cecilia Hall), located in Northern Rome’s Auditorium Parco Della Musica. The Parco Della Musica finished construction in 2002 under the direction of its Italian architect Renzo Piano. A few years after its grand opening, the auditorium became the most visited musical facility in Europe with one million guests in one year.
While excavating the site where the auditorium would be built, workers found the remains of an Italian villa and oil press dating back to 6th Century B.C. The artifacts found on site were preserved and are now on display in the auditorium.
Santa Cecilia Hall is an acoustical engineer’s masterpiece and was built to host symphonies on its 336 square meter stage, allowing room for an entire orchestra and chorus. This grand room is structurally sound proofed, keeping out any noise from the auditorium’s other halls.
This sophisticated concert hall is the perfect meeting place for Synergy Europe’s most looked forward to event of the year.
